On Friday, The Daily Beast reported that a federal judge in South Dakota had rejected Republican Gov. Kristi Noem in an order ordering a court to stop delaying the trial of an accused.

The state court argued that the trial should be suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But Judge Charles Kornmann pointed out that the response to the state’s pandemic was far too incompetent and disconnected to use it as an excuse to deprive people of their sixth amendment right at a speedy and public hearing.

“South Dakota has done little, if anything, to limit the spread of the virus,” Kornmann wrote, specifically about Noem. ‘Her example encourages South Dakotans not to wear masks … South Dakota is now a very dangerous place to live due to the spread of COVID-19. ‘

Noem has proudly boasted that her state will not infringe on residents’ freedom with restrictions on public health, even if her state reports more than 500 new cases per day and a test positivity rate of 42.3 percent – one of the worst rates in the country. She regularly kept herself busy with other matters, including a trip to Georgia to fight for the Republicans in the Senate run-off.
