Idaho Falls is the best COVID-19 hotspot in the country, reports New York Times

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) – A new report shows that Idaho Falls is leading the country in new cases of coronavirus, with Rexburg as third.

The New York Times shows the most recent national data collected over the past two weeks.

The report indicates that Idaho Falls is the country’s largest hotspot for high infection rates and positive tests by population.

The data also shows the rapid rise in infection rates that increased after government officials chose not to issue any pandemic controls, lifting mask mandates in these areas.

Around this time on March 7, Idaho made headlines when protesters burned face masks at the state capitol.

The report also states that Idaho Falls enters the top 20, where newly reported cases are rising the fastest.

The Gem State reported 462 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, with 140 of those in the Eastern Idaho Public Health District and 76 in the Southeastern Public Health District in Idaho.

Another six Idahoans died of the virus on Wednesday, and five of the deaths were in Bannock, Bingham and Bonneville counties.
