Ice cube is just as nasty as you that there has been no “Friday” sequel in almost twenty years, and he blames Warner Bros. for blocking the franchise.
Cube just fired a shot at Twitter on WB, claiming the media giant refuses to hand over the reins to him on the “Friday” franchise to make more sequels and thus hijack the “happiness of the culture”.
Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ … Ice Cube is really angry at how he has been treated by Warner Bros. over the years, and the dispute over more sequels is just the tip of the iceberg – no pun intended.
According to our sources, WB has the rights to the ‘Friday’ franchise, and it does not appear that the studio currently wants to make more sequels. The OG “Friday” was released in 1995, followed by “Next Friday” in 2000 and “Friday to the Next” in 2002.
We are told that Cube is angry because Warner Bros. refuses to release the rights to him so that he can produce sequels elsewhere … and our sources say that Cube feels that the ‘Friday’ franchise is his art, and as WB it does not want to make more movies, they have to give the rights so he can.
We reached out to WB … so far no word back.
