‘I used a modified low carb diet, lose it! App to lose 110 pounds. ‘

My name is Susana Rodriguez (@ myhealth.iswealth), and I’m 29 years old. I live in Los Angeles and am a full time mom. After being diagnosed with heart problems, I decided to start eating a flexible low-carb diet and exercise portion control with the Lose It. app, and walk for weight loss To lose 110 pounds.

Before I started losing weight, I struggled a lot to have the energy to do simple things. It took so much effort to put on my shoes or play with my daughters. I also struggled with confidence. Being overweight has made me so insecure. Although being overweight did not stop me from having happy moments in my life, I was unhappy with myself. At my heaviest, I weighed 273 pounds.

In 2019, heart problems made me feel worse than ever before.

I started suffering from palpitations and an irregular rhythm. I also experienced chest pain and pressure, fainting and fatigue. I could not even walk seven minutes to pick up my daughter at school without feeling like I was going to turn black. I was in and out of the ER all year, and I was constantly misdiagnosed with anxiety. But I knew something was wrong with my heart.

After I was finally referred to a cardiologist in December 2019, I had an echocardiogram and other tests done. My cardiologist told me that I have moderate left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), which actually means I have an enlarged heart, and if left untreated, it can lead to sudden cardiac arrest or heart failure.

I spent the whole of 2019 depressed and imagined myself dying and leaving my girls. I was desperate to feel good. So in January 2020 I knew the time was right now to turn my lifestyle around and take control of my health.

My cardiologist suggested I go on a low carb diet.

When I looked at the guidelines for a low-carb diet and what it means, they said I should limit certain healthy things like fruits, oatmeal and dairy that I had to limit. do not have want to cut out. So I decided to go on a low carb diet in my own way.

For my heart health, I avoid fatty and fried foods, and pay attention to nutrition labels on sodium, sugar and cholesterol. I also try to avoid foods high in trans and saturated fats. I’m watching my food in the Lose It! app and practice section management. If I want something but it is not heart healthy, I make my own healthy alternative. I do not feel deprived or restricted, and I feel in control of how I eat.

I could not exercise right away due to my palpitations and chest pain. So I started in March 2020 with light walks in my area.

I will walk at least 30 minutes three to five times a week. It was very challenging at first because I was not used to getting movement in, and I would get dizzy and faint. But it quickly became my favorite way to stress and move my body. Eventually I was released to practice.

Now, a typical week of exercise includes walking two miles, five days a week. I also like to do Zumba Toning twice a week and HIIT three times a week with dumbbells or body weight. I got involved with HIIT by playing games in the WayBetter app, and I fell in love with how strong it made me feel.

    1. I learned to record my food daily. Following my food was the first major game changer on my journey. I have tried to lose weight before, and I have never learned how to control my portions or really pay attention to my food. When I did, I felt true freedom.
    2. I kept it simple and stayed steady. It’s easy to make a complete switch if you want to embark on a weight loss journey, but it can be overwhelming. I started with a simple step and make healthier food exchange. Learning to keep it simple and stay consistent with my method has borne fruit.
    3. I made time for I. You can not wait for the perfect time to work on your health. I have two young girls and a family that I am inclined to, but I have turned to looking after myself every day. Sometimes I have more time than others. Even though I only have 30 minutes, I use what I have, and I make the best of it.

        I lost 110 pounds in 11 months.

The 110 pounds I lost do not match the weight lifted off my shoulders. I’m really happy now. It’s not about the weight you lose yourself, but about the life you lose profit. I have never felt stronger. I feel unstoppable. Every day is not easy, but it is worth it. I would rather struggle every day to try to improve my health than to struggle with the consequences of failure.
