I-70 turned off from Morrison to Silverthorne, eastern Colorado as snow conditions worsened

DENVER – Interstate 70 was closed Saturday night in both directions from the Denver metro area to Silverthorne, and later closed in eastern Colorado as traffic conditions deteriorated with the accumulation of snow, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The highway was closed from C-470, near Morrison, to Silverthorne. Due to the closure, all traffic was diverted to C-470. The highway was later closed from Limon to Burlington, in eastern Colorado, due to blizzard.

Road conditions deteriorated across the metro area, especially on the west side of Jefferson County and as far as the foothills. Heavy snow fell and it was expected to fall through the night.

Although not much snow accumulated earlier on Saturday, colder temperatures after sunset led to more and more snow on roads.

I-70 was just one of several major closures in the Front Range.

US 6 was closed by Clear Creek Canyon and Interstate 25 was closed between Wellington and the Wyoming border. In Wyoming, Interstate 80 from Cheyenne to Rock Springs was closed.

While there was silence in a large part of the metro area on Saturday, heavy snow was expected to return to the area after 22:00.
