Hyliion Introduces Next Generation Battery Module to Improve Performance and Efficiency

AUSTIN, Texas – (BUSINESS THREAD) – Hyliion Holdings Corp. (NYSE: HYLN) (‘Hyliion’), a leader in electrified power solutions for Class 8 commercial vehicles, today announced the launch of its next-generation battery module that integrates Toshiba’s LTO cells with Hyliion’s technological advancement, longer battery life, higher charging rates and improved safety. Building on Hyliion’s own battery system, the battery module will be incorporated into the next evolution of Hyliion’s Hybrid system.

‘Whether it’s our Hybrid system or our fully electric propulsion system, Hyliion’s solutions are designed to give customers the utmost flexibility when switching to electrified transport, ”says Thomas Healy, founder and CEO of Hyliion. ‘The development of this next-generation battery module is an important milestone in the hybrid commercialization process, further strengthening our overall technology platform as we innovate future solutions. ‘

The new module uses the previous experience of the battery and improvements for improved cooling of the batteries, and offers several benefits related to the performance and allows the cooling by more than 40 percent compared to the previous system. Key benefits include:

  • Longer life The improved battery module of Hyliion has up to five times the life of a regular EV battery.
  • Higher charging rates – Improved heat dissipation results in higher battery charging and discharging rates and longer sustained power output.
  • Speed – The battery can be recharged in less than 8 minutes, an unprecedented charging time compared to other EV battery solutions.
  • Safety –The new module design lowers the operating temperature of the cells, enabling a safer operating environment.

The design has already passed the testing procedures of the UN-38.3 batteries and offers improvements to withstand the stress and penalties on the road.

Hyliion’s Hybrid system can be installed on most large Class 8 commercial vehicles to reduce fuel consumption, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve performance and reduce operating costs. The Hybrid system is already in use across North America, including deployments with leading transportation and logistics fleets.

The Hybrid solution is one of Hyliion’s two electrified power systems for long-range Class 8 commercial vehicles, which also includes the Hypertruck ERX. Hyliion’s electrified power solution solutions use proprietary battery and software systems, combined with electric motors and power electronics, to produce an electrified propulsion platform that can be used to replenish or replace, in the case of the Hybrid system, in the case of the Hypertruck ERX, traditional diesel or CNG propulsion (CNG), and improve their performance. Hyliion solutions are designed to be fuel-efficient, giving customers the greatest flexibility to choose vehicles that best fit their overall strategy in their transition to electrified transportation.
