Husband shoots ex-girlfriend, then himself after hours of negotiation in Ogden

OGDEN, Utah – According to Ogden police, a man shot himself and is in critical condition after shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend.

The suspect, whose name was not released, confronted the victim in the parking lot of a Smith’s grocery store on Harrison Blvd 1485. Saturday noon.

At around 13:15, he shot dead the 41-year-old woman (whose name was also not released) and then fled the area, police said.

The man was later found in a front yard a few miles away in the 900 block of Maple Street. Neither the police nor the occupants of the house knew why he was there.

The suspect was armed with a handgun and refused orders from officers to surrender, and a SWAT team was called. Nearby residents were evacuated from their homes.

After police tried to negotiate with him for hours, the man shot himself. He was immediately medically admitted and transported to a local hospital, where he is in a critical condition.

Police say there is no further threat to the public.
