Hunterdon County DeSales baseball player dies in car crash

A graduate of Delaware High School in 2017 was one of three people killed in an accident in Pennsylvania on Saturday night.

The school said in a statement that two alumni and a current student were killed while a current student was injured in the Lanark Road accident in Upper Saucon, Pennsylvania. The school identified one of the dead victims as Sean Hanczaryk, a Frenchtown senior.

Nicholas White, a 2019 DeSales graduate and former baseball player from The Woodlands, Texas, and Emily Kattner, a 2020 DeSales graduate, also died.

A report by The Morning Call describes a Dodge Charger that crashed into a large tree, leaving burns and large holes. Police in the Upper Saucon on Monday morning did not immediately return a message from New Jersey 101.5 about the circumstances of the crash.

Hanczaryk was a major in sports and exercise physiology and a catcher in the DeSales baseball team. He was team captain while at DVHS, according to his biography on the DeSales website.

Delaware Valley athletic director Bill Deniz told MyCentralJersey.com that Hanczaryk was a graduate in 2017, stayed cool under pressure and was never in a bad mood.

“On behalf of the entire DeSales University community, I extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the family and friends of the lives we have lost,” said University President James Greenfield in a written statement. “We are also praying for a complete recovery for our student who remains in a critical condition in hospital.”

According to Carolyn A. Steigleman, university spokeswoman, on Sunday, four hundred people attended a prayer service for those involved in the crash. Plans are still being discussed for a memorial service or other memorial.

A friend has created a GoFundMe page for Hanczaryk’s family.

“Sean was an amazing young man who had nothing but love for everyone around him,” said Matt Kolonia, GoFundMe organizer.
