Hunter Biden tried to explain on Sunday why he went out with his deceased brother’s widow, but said he could understand why ‘people were confused’ by the eyebrow romance.
The president’s son discussed the reaction to revelations in March 2017 when he dated his brother Beau Biden’s widow, Hallie Biden.
‘I think people were confused by it and I understand it. I’m really doing it, ‘he said in a sitdown with CBS’ ‘Sunday Morning’.
‘For me, it’s not hard to explain, because it comes from an overwhelming sadness that we both shared and that we were together and trying to do the right thing. And that sadness has turned into a hope for a love that might replace what we lost and it does not work, ‘he continued.
Hunter – who was still married to his estranged wife Kathleen at the time – said he and Hallie were “incredibly happy” that their family supported the unusual connection after Beau died of cancer in May 2015.
But others were not so understanding. Hunter revealed that he lost customers and business during that time.
“I made a lot of decisions that I probably shouldn’t have made,” Hunter said. He has been struggling with addiction for a long time and also reveals that he searched through carpets for everything that looks like crack cocaine..
“There was a lot more compassion and understanding for the people who knew me, but it was a terrible time.”
Hunter and Hallie split up later that year.
He has since remarried to a South African woman named Melissa Cohen just a week after they met.
Hunter made the appearance in the morning news program Sunday to promote his new memoir, “Beautiful Things,” on April 6th.
