Hundreds of flights were canceled in Colorado as the winter storm approached

DENVER (KKTV) – Hundreds of flights are already being canceled at Denver International Airport as the region prepares for a huge winter storm.

The flight detection website Flightaware shows 744 cancellations at DIA from 1pm and 114 delays.

Denver expects one of its biggest snowmakers from the storm, with 1-2 yards currently forecast for the metro area. Areas to the south will be only slightly better: with 14-20 centimeters of snow in the forecast for Monument, the journey to I-25 this weekend will be extremely dangerous – if the interstate is open at all. CDOT says the road closure is likely.

In Colorado Springs, the airport is reporting 30 delays.

Before the storm, some airlines such as Frontier and Southwest were trying to accommodate travelers. Frontier is offering a one-time travel adjustment for all customers with a plane ticket for the weekend of March 12-14, provided the ticket is purchased before March 8th. Suidwes has travelers book their flights within 14 days between 12 and 15 March. Consult your airline to discover your options.
