Former President Trump’s second indictment continues for its third day on Thursday, February 11th.
Senators are considering convicting the former president of inciting insurgency after a mob of his supporters stormed the US Capitol in a deadly January 6 attack.

On the first day of the trial, Democratic House prosecution officials presented a dramatic 13-minute video showing the chaos at the Capitol on Jan. 6, along with Mr. Trump’s speech to supporters earlier in the day, when he urged his followers to ‘fight like hell. ‘As of January 6, the indictment managers have never before shown footage showing how close the rioters were to many members of Congress, including a video of Eugene Goodman, Capitol police officer, sending Senator Mitt Romney away from the crowd.
The president’s lawyers, in a sometimes stand-alone presentation, argued on Tuesday that the Senate has no power to hold an accusation hearing for former officials under the ordinary language of the Constitution. However, the Senate voted 56 to 44 to reject the argument, with 6 Republicans joining the Democrats to continue the trial.

The House voted to charge Trump on Jan. 13 on charges of incitement to an uprising. Ten House Republicans joined every Democrat to vote for accusation.
In the article of indictment, Mr. Trump accused of “intentionally inciting violence against the United States government” in a speech to his supporters “which encouraged and predictably led to lawless action at the Capitol.” Five people, including a Capitol Police Officer, lost their lives.
Mr. Trump is the first president in history to be arrested twice. But it appears he will be acquitted, as 67 votes – two-thirds of the Senate – are required to plead guilty, meaning 17 Republicans must join all 50 Democrats.
