“CBS Presents Oprah with Meghan and Harry” airs on Sunday, March 7 from 8pm to 10pm ET in the United States. In the UK, the interview will be broadcast on ITV on Monday 8 March at 21:00 local time.
How can I watch the interview?
Viewers in the United States can watch the interview on CBS broadcast stations or online on CBS.com.
Why is Oprah interviewing Harry and Meghan?
Oprah is friendly with the couple: she attended Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May 2018, and Winfrey helped the couple establish themselves in the community. She previously collaborated with Harry on a mental health documentary for Apple TV +.
Oprah has had long-standing business relationships with CBS, but she has maintained control over the maintenance throughout her production company Harpo. Her company drew up the interview plan and brought it to CBS.
Harpo and CBS announced the US premiere, after which ViacomCBS Global’s worldwide distribution arm set up other international broadcasters from Australia to Switzerland.
Why is the interview taking place now?
The couple have mostly remained silent over a sea of controversy surrounding their controversial relationship with the royal family, but it seems they are ready to talk.
“[The Duchess] and the duke must speak openly and honestly about their experience of recent years, ‘Harry and Meghan’s spokesman said in a statement last week.
The interview has been going on for years: Although the CBS interview was announced on February 15, Oprah said in a preview clip released on Friday that she spoke to Meghan in February or March 2018 about a possible maintenance – even before the royal wedding.
“I remember the conversation very well,” Meghan said. “I may not even have that conversation with you personally, right.” She indicated that Buckingham Palace’s communications staff were present.
“I could not have said yes to you then,” Meghan said. “It was not my choice. As an adult who really lived an independent life – to then go to this construct that is … different from what I think people think it is – it’s really liberating to be in “To be able to say yes in some ways and to have the privilege of saying yes. I mean … I’m ready to talk.”
Why is this interview important?
There have been tensions between the couple and the palace for years now, and the duo are expected to release revealing details about their experiences.
In a preview, Meghan said: “I do not know how they could have expected us to remain silent after all this time only if there is an active role that the firm plays in maintaining falsehoods about us.”
