How to unlock the immortal shores in dead cells

Dead cells has recently become much larger. This week’s Fatal Falls expansion adds a crop of weapons and enemies to the game, plus two new biomes. The problem is to gain access to these two zones – the broken shrines and the immortal shores – to evade simple explanation. Classic Dead cells, right? Here’s how to find it.

Broken shrines

It is easy to achieve. After hitting the first boss – I tend to follow the route that sees me against the Concierge on Black Bridge – you should see an elevator in the next anteroom. Take it to the top. Easy enough.

Immortal shores

You may not … Eh, this joke is exaggerated.

When you reach the end of the biome Fractured Shrines, you come through to the Undying Shores. Unless you have examined every pixel of the broken shrines, it will be locked, without any explicit instructions to unlock it.

Notice the two statues on either side of the door – specifically how they wear mantle clothes. You’re looking for a corpse wearing that outfit. It will be hidden in a dusty corner of the stage’s procedure-generated layout against a sarcophagus.

After finding the corpse, use the Homunculus Rune (right thumb stick, at least on Switch) to remove your “head” from your body and possess this corpse. Van there, go through the rest of the level just as usual. (Do not worry, you will keep your equipment.) The images preserved by you must draw an opposite Gandalf and let you pass. You also unlock the blueprint for the Cultist’s Outfit, which costs only one cell to unlock.

(There is one possible hiccup: since you only get the Homunculus Rune after successfully completing the first run, it is unclear whether players who have not already done so will not gain access to the Undying Shores. Kotaku has developed developer Motion Twin for clarification.)

You only have to do this once; the door to Undying Shores remains open in your future runs. There’s apparently a boss at the end of the stage, an alternative to the Time Keeper, who appears in the Clock Room stage. I’m pretty rusty Dead cells so for the time being I have no idea what this new enemy is like and how the hell you beat it. Strength!
