How to tell if Verizon has revoked your Jetpack hotspot

If you have one of three different models of an Ellipsis Jetpack hotspot – the same Jetpack hotspot you would have bought from Verizon to give nearby devices access to 4G connectivity, you would not want to use it anymore. Verizon recalls about 2.5 million of these hotspots over concerns about their lithium-ion batteries could overheat and causes a burn (or gives a decent burn).

The three models in question are the Ellipsis Jetpack MHS900L, MHS900LS, en MHS900LPP. If you have one, you will want to take it the next steps before returning it to Verizon:

‘If your device is turned off, please turn it on so that the relevant Ellipsis Jetpack devices can receive the automatic software updates over the air that will:

  1. Displays the device ID number (IMEI) on its browsing screen, which will help with the exchange
  2. Prevent the device from charging while plugged in and on.

You will know that the software update has been applied when you see the ID number (IMEI) scroll on the screen of the device.

  • After applying the software update, users should turn on the device while it is plugged in.
  • If not in use, the device must be switched off, disconnected from the power supply and stored safely until you receive the packaging to return the Ellipsis Jetpack safely. ”

The IMEI number is critical because this is how you will get the recall process started with Verizon by calling or visiting 855-205-2627 www.EllipsisJetpackRecall.expertinquiry.com to begin with. As part of the recall, you will receive a free hotspot to replace the dangerous Ellipsis Jetpacks, and you will also need a free return envelope to return your Jetpack to Verizon for disposal.

As indicated in the Consumer Product Safety Commission notice, Verizon has handled approximately 15 reports of Jetpacks overheating, including six reports of fire damage and two burns. That’s a pretty low number given the number of Ellipsis Jetpacks out there, but it’s not something you want to put off if you own one. It could not be much easier to start the recall on your part; do not delay it, otherwise you will forget it.
