How to share WhatsApp forever

If you use WhatsApp, the incredibly popular messaging app owned by Facebook, chances are you came across it news surrounding their ever-changing privacy policies. Even though the service seems to be constantly moving from more to safe to less secure and back again, it may feel like it’s time to pack your data and find a new platform to chat with friends.

If you decide to remove yourself from WhatsApp, here’s what you want to do:

Tap the chat you want to save to execute your messages. Tap on the name of the chat at the top and scroll down to ‘Export chat’ and then choose whether you want to include the media in the chat.

Then request your account details by going to “Settings” in the lower right corner. Then select “Account” and “Request Account Information”. It will take about three days to receive your WhatsApp data report, but they will notify you when it is ready.

Finally, to delete your account, go to “Settings”, then “Account” and “Delete my account”. Doing so will erase your message history, remove you from all groups, and remove your backup. Now you are free from WhatsApp and just need to convince your friends and family to migrate to another app.
