Worried about listening to iPhone apps with your device’s built-in microphone? If so, it’s easy to know for sure – and to revoke access to microphones if necessary – by checking a list in Settings. Here’s how to do it.
First open the “Settings” app.
In “Settings”, tap “Privacy”.
In “Privacy”, tap “Microphone”.
The following screen shows a list of installed applications that have previously requested access to your microphone. Each app has a switch attached to it. If the switch is “on” (green), the app has access to your microphone. If the switch is “off” (or grayed out), the app does not have access to your microphone.
To remove access to your microphone from an app, tap the switch next to it to turn it off. If you want to give an app access to your microphone, turn on the switch as well.
When you are done, leave “Settings” and your changes will take effect immediately.
Note that if you’re using iOS 14 or later, you can see when an app is using your microphone, or if there’s an orange dot in the status bar in the top right corner of your iPhone screen. (If you see a green dot, it means your camera is being used.)
If you ever think an app is using your microphone if it’s not, go to Settings> Privacy> Microphone as outlined above and revoke the app’s access by sliding the switch to ‘out’ “. Strength!
