The end of 2020 was considered positive for many, but it was bittersweet in at least one way: Adobe finally officially killed Flash Player.
This was not a surprise, as Adobe announced that Flash would die with three years’ notice. It’s the end of a long era, which bored teenagers find ways to entertain themselves in the computer lab in high school. Before you could easily get high quality games for free on your phone, you had to be content with the copyright infringing Flash nonsense. It was amazing.
Either way, Flash is gone forever and Adobe wants people to remove their computers from any remnants of Flash Player because it no longer receives security updates. ‘Useless’ and ‘potentially dangerous along the way’ make for a bad combination. Fortunately, Adobe has official instructions for uninstalling Flash Player on Windows and Mac.
Fortunately, the process seems fairly streamlined and simple. Adobe has set up a Flash Player remover that you can find on one of the two instruction pages. Of course, make sure you download the right one for your operating system first. After doing so, open the download, click on the Flash Player Uninstaller icon and let it do magic.
On Mac, it was literally one button press for me. I told the program to remove Adobe Flash Player and it did exactly that. You probably need to close the browser windows you open, so make sure you do not lose the tabs you need. Once done, the uninstaller app will notify you by taking you to a webpage with a simple message from Adobe:
Flash has been running a bit and it’s sad to see how it goes. Running a program to remove it from your computer will not really feel goodbye, but hey, these are the best memories that count the most.
