How to make and share your Instagram Top 9 posts of 2020

In this digital age, the end of the year remains an excellent time for reflection – now we can get virtual help to remember what the best parts of the past 12 months have been.

The Instagram Top 9 is perhaps the best-known end-of-year tradition, in which people use technology to see which of their Instagram posts have received the most likes over the past year and then share the data in grid form.

Although the use of publishing report screens on your Insta profile is a dated practice of ‘the old days’, as Mashable puts it, many of the last days of recent years have been posted on Instagram Stories.

Want to know how to do your own Top 9? Here’s how you can make it happen before we call the new year.

Choose between Top Nine and Best Nine

Both of these free sites serve solely to determine and format your most popular posts. Top Nine is available as a website and an app, and the latter does not require an email address. Best Nine – which can only be used for public accounts – is a website only and operates significantly slower. (‘Please note: it now takes approximately 10 minutes to complete your request due to a large question,’ warns the website.)

Tap your handle and wait

Simply enter it and submit it when prompted on any website.

Save and share

Top Nine provides a “Save & Share” button to easily place the grid-based report in your Instagram story. For those who prefer to manually upload, save or screenshot the image just after the camera roll of your phone, then open Instagram and upload the image in a story.

Voila! Although 2020 was probably not the most photogenic year in memory for many, we have made it through and it is still worth recalling the highlights (and perhaps leaving the low lights behind).
