Take your last farewell from WhatsApp and go to Telegram? Wouldn’t it be great if you could take all your chat messages and media with you? It is possible to import individual WhatsApp chats directly into Telegram!

WhatsApp’s backup and restore feature is very limited. It does not even work between Android and iPhone without a third party tool. But Telegram has an input feature that allows you to transfer conversations from other messaging applications like WhatsApp, Line and KaKaoTalk by chat. Although it sounds boring, it is done. In this guide we focus on WhatsApp.

Once the chat is entered, the messages will appear for both parties. The entered messages will be added to the bottom of the chat, but will contain their original timestamp.

All you have to do is run the WhatsApp chat and enter in Telegram. Here’s how it works on Android and iPhone.

Import WhatsApp Chat History into Telegram for Android

Open the WhatsApp app and go to the conversation you want to export to Telegram.

Tap the three-point menu icon in the top right corner.

Now select the “More” button.

Select the “Export chat” option here.

WhatsApp will now ask you if you want to perform the chat with or without media. The output with media can be several hundred MB, depending on your chat. If you want to keep it lightweight, then go to the “Without media” option.

In the sub-page, tap on the shortcut “Telegram” program.

You will now see all your conversations in the Telegram app. Select here the conversation to which you want to import the messages.

In the pop-up message, tap the “Import” button.

The Telegram app will start importing your chat. Once it is done, you will see the input message. Tap the “Done” button here.

The Telegram conversation will be updated with all the WhatsApp data. It will also show you the original timestamps of WhatsApp.

Enter WhatsApp Chat History in Telegram for iPhone

The steps are slightly different when it comes to the iPhone. Open the WhatsApp app on your iPhone and navigate to the chat you want to export to Telegram.

Select Contact from WhatsApp

Tap the profile name of the contact at the top of the screen here.

Scroll down and tap on the “Export chat” option.

WhatsApp will ask you if you want to perform the chat with or without media. To keep the output light on, select the “Without media” option.

Select the “Telegram” application on the sub-page.

Search and select the contact to which you want to import the chat.

Confirm the action from the pop-up message by selecting the “Import” option.

Telegram will now import the chat. Once the process is complete, tap the “Done” button.

You will find the WhatsApp messages in the Telegram chat with their old timestamps.
