To celebrate the end of 2020, The Pokemon Company is releasing a special man from space in Sword & Shield. Here’s how to claim your galactic Kibo’s Pikachu for free for a limited time right now.

Pokémon fans around the world were amazed when the beloved Nintendo franchise appeared on the International Space Station during the epic Space Sunrise live event on December 31st.

To celebrate the end of 2020, Sword & Shield players will receive a special version of the Pikachu from outer space. Here are the steps you need to take to collect the limited time monthly.

Pokémon Sword & Shield gets a galactic gift for New Year

While Japan is ringing in the new year, popular monsters like Pikachu and Rayquaza have arrived on the International Space Station with incredible AR technology. While the livestream closed without any major announcements from Game Freak, viewers got a special Pikachu in Sword & Shield.

Fortunately, it can be claimed by anyone. The unique version of the sweet mascot is the theme to the Kibo space module which is not the ISS. Strikingly, the character holds a Comet Shard while playing Thunderbolt, Swift, Wish and Celebrate. It also has a special ribbon.

However, players will have to act fast as the limited time that Mystery Gift expires on January 15th.

How to claim free Kibo’s Pikachu in Sword & Shield

  • Step 1: After starting your Sword & Shield storage, press X and scroll down to the Mystery Gift menu.
  • Step 2: Click “Get a mysterious gift” and select “Get online.”
  • Step 3: Select “KIBO’s PIKACHU GIFTAnd you’re done. If you have an internet connection, it should drop ‘mon’ into your game immediately.

Pokémon fans can claim Sword & Shield’s Mystery Gift feature on New Year’s Eve Pikachu.

While some may be let down by the promotion as yet another Pikachu, the free reward was a fairly neat fit for those tuned in to the epic galactic live stream event.

At the start of 2021, it is unclear whether Sword & Shield will get more future content. But with Pokémon celebrating its 25th anniversary in just a few months, fans have a lot to be excited about.
