How Peter Parker finally returned after Miles Morales

In the aftermath of his death, the iconic mantle of Ultimate Peter Parker is adopted by Miles Morales until a surprise resurrection led to his return.

A contemporary attack on Marvel’s most beloved character, the Ultimate Spider-Man series features a younger modernized version of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s core hero. For the most part, Ultimate Peter Parker (from Earth-1610) reflects the canonical character, except for slight deviations in appearance, age, and power origin (bitten by a spider adapted with an experimental means, as opposed to radiation).

The first title in Marvel’s Ultimate comic series will be helped from 2000-2011 by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley (and Stuart Immonen and David Lafuente, respectively). His critical and lucrative success has led to the development of similar runs including Ultimate Fantastic Four, Ultimate X-Men, and The ultimates. The series has since been created as one of the best modern eras to date due to the fresh version and implementation of storylines with a lasting impression – especially ‘The Death of Spider-Man’ which Ultimate Spider-Man # 156- # 160 by Brian Michael Bendis, Mark Bagley, Andy Lanning, Andrew Hennessy, Justin Ponsor, Cory Petit and Joe Sabino.

The event follows a determined Peter Parker, who leaves in fear of the safety of his family in search of Norman Osborn (Green Goblin) and the villainous Ultimate Six. As he gets through the fierce Ultimate Avengers and New Ultimates, Peter throws himself in front of a bullet intended to wound Captain America. Despite using tires as a temporary bandage, his selfless act was the beginning of the end for the wall crawler.

The unraveling took place shortly afterwards during his last battle against Osborn when an explosion further weakened the young hero, who succumbed to his wounds, surrounded by his loved ones. In his farewell words, Peter told Aunt May that although he could not save Uncle Ben, he could die safely in the knowledge that he had saved her.

When the city mourned their fallen protector, a new hero emerged from the shadows. Enter the young Miles Morales who, determined to use his own similar powers to keep the legacy alive, as the new web head begins Ultimate Comics Spider-Man Vol.2 # 4 by Brian Michael Bendis, Sara Pichelli, Justin Ponsor and Cory Petit.

Meanwhile, shortly after his apparent death, Peter Parker woke up in an unknown abandoned laboratory facility. When he returned to his famous New York, a meeting with Mary Jane led to a visit to his grave to prove the validity of his death. Without knowing Peter, the mystery surrounding his resurrection was revealed as a side effect of the OZ formula that gives the recipient some form of immortality.

However, the return of Peter did not spell the end of his successor in the role, and Morales learned more from happy timing than from choice from the revival of his predecessor. Peter’s intention to pay a leisurely visit to Morales’ home to reclaim his web shooters for sentimental purposes was thwarted when a shocked Morales found the presumed dead hero in his home.

A disagreement between the two over Peter’s decision not to notify Aunt May of his return for fear of its impact prompted the web-slingers to go from side to side. In the dispute, Peter knocked the younger web head unconscious and left with his web shooters behind. He later saw Morales arguing with the recently resurrected Osborn and, for fear of the odds against him, came to his aid – much to the surprise of his sad family and friends who saw the rescue from the sidelines.

After a successful conspiracy in Osborn’s defeat, Peter surrendered his web shooters – and subsequent mantle – to Morales. Peter and Mary Jane were eager to discover the truth about his rebirth, and then set off to start a new life together.

The idea that this version of Peter Parker remains alive within the multiverse was temporarily turned on its head after the destruction of Earth-1610 in the “Secret Wars” event in 2015. In addition to the rebirth of the ultimate universe, Spider-Men II # 5 by Brian Michael Bendis, Sara Pichelli, Mark Bagley and several others, also confirms the return of Ultimate Peter Parker to the mantle.
