DETROIT – Welcome to Sunday night, Motown!
We have a fresh blanket of fluffy snow over Detroit and southeast Michigan on Sunday night. Many areas received an inch or less, but Oakland County and some neighborhoods received 1 to 3 inches. Even a little snow can cause major problems, so be careful on streets and sidewalks on Sunday nights.
Scattered gusts move away on Sunday after lunchtime. Most of Monday will be dry during the day, then there will be snow again for Monday night and Tuesday.
Sunday night will be cloudy with scattered showers and cold temperatures in the upper 20s.
On Sunday it will be mostly cloudy and cold. Lowest overnight stays will be in the upper teens and low 20s.
More snow is likely from Monday to Tuesday. A separate low-pressure area moves south of southern Michigan. Cold air will remain in place as the storm increases, picking up moisture and throwing it into southeastern Michigan in the form of light to heavy snow. Afternoon temps will be Monday and Tuesday in the low thirties.
The first snowflakes arrive late Monday afternoon. Snow showers are becoming heavier and wider on Monday evening and early Tuesday morning. Tuesday remains snow with on and off light snow after sunrise and the rest of the day.
All Detroiters need to dig their snow. Some Michiganders in the southeast will spend more time removing snow than others. The heaviest snow will be from Detroit to Ann Arbor southward to the Michigan-Ohio border. From Sunday, higher snow totals between Monday and Tuesday are expected to reach 3 to 5 centimeters. A lighter amount of snow – 1 to 4 inches – will fall from the Eight Mile Road north to I-69 and the thumb region.
Remember: the predicted snow totals can change, so stay tuned.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be sunnier and colder. Daytime temperatures will be in the mid and upper 20s. The lows of the night and the early morning hours are in the teens with sometimes chilly wind chills.
