BRYAN, Texas (CBTX) – The Texas Department of Health Services said all vaccinations against COVID-19 should continue after Phase 1B of the state’s vaccination plan, which includes people 65 and older or with certain medical conditions but hospitals in Brazos County says they are still working in Phase 1A.
Phase 1A of the Texas COVID-19 Vaccination Distribution Plan includes front-line health care workers and residents of long-term care facilities. Due to the availability of vaccines, local hospitals say they are not ready to go on.
“The messages you hear from DSHS about the move to Phase 1B cannot be applied in all communities in Texas because situations are different,” said Clint Cheng, medical director of the St. Joseph Medical Group, said an interview with KBTX. ‘Some communities sent the vaccine earlier, and more than they actually needed for their health workers, so they could move more quickly into Phase 1B. We received it later, so we continue to vaccinate 1A, and we hope to get where we want to be within the next few weeks. ”
Baylor Scott & White Health has released a statement on their vaccination efforts across the country, saying they are still vaccinating their health workers and that they will start immunizing patients and community members as soon as they are done.
‘To date, the organization has received 26,825 doses. The doses received are distributed within a few hours after the insurance of the shipment, and it is not kept. The amount distributed per day depends on a number of factors, including supply, ”reads the release.
Baylor Scott & White says they employ more than 56,300 employees and physicians across the state and also vaccinate workers at partner facilities and contract workers who support patient care.
Baylor Scott & White and St. Joseph Health does not provide a total number of people who are vaccinated locally.
Phase 1A of vaccine distribution also includes residents of long-term care facilities before Phase 1B expands to include other vulnerable populations. Click here to learn more about Phase 1B.
