How long have you owned your current smartphone?

Over the past year, we have been keeping our smartphones longer and longer. The old two-year upgrade cycle so often promoted by providers (the primary smartphone retailers here in the US) is being abandoned because most of us are hanging on to our aging devices, and current events only reinforce that. As smartphone season for 2021 begins to heat up, we are curious to know: how long do you own your current smartphone?

Analysts claim that most people upgrade about once every 2.5-3 years and stretch how long their smartphones last between purchases. This is understandable, as we have broken the thousand-dollar barrier for many models, and some Android smartphone makers are finally starting to take long-term updates seriously – with Samsung apparently giving the lead.

The question recently arose with our readers, and the last time we asked it was about three years ago. Presumably, most of those who responded to it have upgraded since then. Given the current events, I’m curious to see if the outlook among our readers has changed, tending to regular updates above average.

This time we just change the poll options slightly for even six months windows during the same period, and if you have multiple devices to work or play, answer it for each one you consider ‘primary’ phone.
