How does Avel Rosario of Cleveland Indians fit in the rankings? Hi, Hoynsie

Hi, Hoynsie: Where does Amed Rosario fit into the Indian roster? – Liam Jones, Youngstown.

Hi, Liam: Well, now he does a little bit of this and a little bit of it. He comes to camp as a short stop, moves to midfield and now he is bouncing between the two positions. The feeling is that he will eventually become a decent midfielder, but that’s going to take time. I think we see him play shortstop against some hard leftists.

He had a pinch hit and scored in the opening game against the Tigers on Thursday. The Indians need to get his bat as much as possible in the lineup.

Hi, Hoynsie: What is the tribe’s opening day record since you covered the team? – Tom, Vernon.

Hi, Tom: I burned out some calculators to figure it out. Since I started covering the Indians in 1983, they have been 16-23 in season openings. So it seems like I was the problem all along.

Francisco Lindor

Met’s shortstop Francisco Lindor.AP

Hi, Hoynsie: If we look at Francisco Lindor’s new contract, how much does the agent get and when is he paid? Every year or all up front? – Spence, Canton.

Van Spence: The NFL and NBA limit a player’s commission to 3%. There is no limit in MLB. An agent commission is usually between 4% and 10%. With approval agreements, the agent can get between 10% and 20%.

Lindor has just signed a ten-year $ 341 million deal with the Mets. He wanted $ 341 to make him the highest paid shortstop in history. Fernando Tatis recently signed a $ 1440 million contract with the Padres for 1440 years. I’m not sure if David Meter, Lindor’s agent, is paid, but I imagine he’s doing well.

Indians versus giants

Goodyear Ballpark, spring training home of the Indians and Reds, in Goodyear, Ariz.AP

Hi, Hoynsie: I recently moved from Cleveland to Arizona, and yes, I miss more to Progressive Field than I can say. Now that the team is back in Cleveland, I understand that the Goodyear training complex has its own schedule. Who does what and it is open to the public.? – Greg Benedetto, Cottonwood, Arizona.

Hi, Greg: Fans were not allowed to watch practices when the big league club worked in the complex in Goodyear this spring due to coronavirus protocols. I would think it would be the same for the minor players. They will spend most of April there hopefully preparing for their Class AA and Class A seasons.

The Indians will keep at least one team at their complex when the Class AA and Class A teams set up camp in May to start their seasons. Maybe the protocols will be loosened by them enough so that you can attend some of the games.

The Indians have another group of minor leagues in their alternate camp in Columbus. They will start playing games on Monday. The class AAA team will come from that camp.

Cleveland Indians Summer Workouts

Hi, Hoynsie: Except for a number of pitches, do the Indians have a weak minor system? They once had promising positional player talent that we expected would make a difference in the big leagues with players like Francisco Lindor, Manny Ramirez, Albert Belle and Jim Thome. Who are the players in the farming system who can help in Cleveland? – David Seed, Shaker Heights.

Hi, David: The Indians pumped a lot of talent into the system with the trades of Trevor Bauer, Corey Kluber, Mike Clevinger and Mike Clevinger. They also developed their own talent in players like Shane Bieber, Zach Plesac, Aaron Civale, Triston McKenzie and James Karinchak. This spring was an upcoming party for underage midfielders Tyler Freeman, Owen Miller, Gabriel Arias and Ernie Clement. Freeman and Miller were so impressive that they stayed with the big league team until they set up camp on Tuesday.

There’s a big gap between the Lindor and the other position players you mentioned – Ramirez, Belle and Thome. But the Indians have talent to come, positioning players and pitchers. Their farming system is well thought out by the big leagues.
