Zach LaVine has lost a lot since coming to Chicago. Friday night, a post-game attitude may be just as depressing as he put it as a bull.
“We folded upright,” LaVine said. “There’s not much to talk about.”
But there is enough to analyze the Bulls’ 127-125 overtime loss to the Thunder, which according to ESPN Stats & Info was only the second time in 2,932 cases in the last five seasons that a team inflated a ten-point lead has. the last two minutes of regulation.
“I mean, we’re 20 points higher,” LaVine said. “We have to win that game.”
Twenty-two actually in the third quarter. And at 14 with 4:09 in regulation. And at 10 with 1:47 left.
Just as painful as the competitive losses for the Lakers and Clippers in Los Angeles, the Bulls need to be careful that this does not leave a lasting mark.
“This one has to hurt,” Lauri Markkanen said.
With 24 turnover possession, the Bulls now own three of the NBA’s ten games this season with 22 or more turnover. After a stellar first half in which they gave up 17 assists up to seven times, the Bulls had 18 field goals and 17 times in the second half and overtime.
“We just have to do a better job than an entire organization because we can not lose such games. We lost a lot of games this year where we played well. Our performance in the fourth quarter needs to improve. And I take it upon myself. I made a lot of mistakes in the fourth quarter, “said LaVine. ‘It’s extremely frustrating. Somehow, you have to pull out those games, even if you play badly. ‘
If there is an epic collapse of this relationship, there is a lot of guilt to share. To know:
- LaVine committed one of its six turnovers at that fateful 4:09 point to start the bleeding
- Wendell Carter Jr. overcame Mike Muscala with a three-point effort at 1:47, resulting in three free throws that weakened the Thunder’s ten-point deficit.
- Coby White and Lauri Markkanen committed offensive offenses, the latter while putting a 26.9-second screen over that resulted in the Thunder having possession.
- White overcame Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the draw three points by 16.4 seconds
- LaVine had to hoist a controversial three-pointer at the end of the regulation after the Thunder had a mid-pick-and-roll call in which Otto Porter Jr. and Lauri Markkanen was involved.
- The Bulls repeatedly struggled with the shooter in transition, and Muscala burned them for a three-pointer to open overtime.
- For the third time this season, the Bulls did not have a late hour, so LaVine rushed with the rush after George Hill split by 5.2 seconds over two free throws to win a three-point. Unfortunately, Denzel Valentine ran past LaVine and brought in an extra defender.
“I think these guys are smart guys,” Donovan said. “They know that a lot of these things are caused by themselves.”
The Bulls have very little margin of error. Their record of 4-8 and Friday’s monstrous collapse is proof.
‘This is a hard-working group; it’s a good group of guys, ”said Donovan. “They want to win. They do not know how to do. They learn how to.
‘WI have to work with everyone and try to figure it out, because it’s something these guys have been dealing with for a while. I’ve been twelve games in this. And as a coach, you feel bad. You want to be able to do more, and I need to find a few different ways to help them as a group. ‘
