Houston Texans’ restructuring deal Brandin Cooks gives the team salary compensation

HOUSTON – The Texans have restructured wide receiver Brandin Cooks’ contract, sources confirmed to ESPN.

According to a source, the restructuring invalidates the last season of the deal Cooks signed with the Los Angeles Rams in 2018, which means he will now be a free agent after the 2022 season.

NFL Network first reported that Cooks’ contract had been restructured. The restructuring, which promotes more than $ 6 million to the Texans, converts $ 10 million of Cooks’ base salary into a sign-up bonus. Prior to the restructuring, Cooks had a $ 12 million cap in 2021, but there was no guarantee on his contract.

The restructuring guarantees Cooks’ salary in 2021 and adds $ 1 million to the contract over the next two seasons.

Cooks is coming off his fifth season with more than 1,000 yards. The receiver, who plays in his fourth team in seven seasons, had 81 catches for 1,150 yards and six touchdowns in his first season in Houston.

Along with Cooks, Texans Isaiah Coulter has the fifth round in 2020 and finalists Randall Cobb and Keke Coutee are under contract.

Wide receiver Will Fuller played on his fifth-year option before being suspended in November. Houston has not used the franchise label on Fuller, so he will be an unlimited free agent when the new league year begins next week.
