Phillip Lindsay signed a one-year deal with the Houston Texans, his agent Announced Friday.
The deal is worth $ 3.25 million, with $ 1 million guaranteed and $ 500,000 incentives, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Lindsay joins veterans David Johnson and Mark Ingram. Houston restructured Johnson’s contract earlier this season and decided to bring him back at a lower price instead of reducing his $ 9 million salary for 2021.
The Texans ‘running game of David Johnson and backup Duke Johnson struggled in 2020 and finished last in the NFL in Football Outsiders’ DVOA. Duke Johnson was released earlier in the off-season.
Lindsay, 26, became an unrestricted free agent when the Broncos withdrew the RFA tender they placed on him that would allow them to abide by any contract but offer no compensation to Denver if he with a other team would not sign.
Lindsay, who played collegiately in Colorado in 2018 and made the Broncos Series as an unknown free agent, passed 1,037 yards and nine times in his rookie season. He was also selected to the Pro Bowl.
He followed that up in 2019 with another 1,000-year season, which rushed him to 1,011 yards and seven touchdowns.
Despite Lindsay’s success, the Broncos signed runway Melvin Gordon to a two-year, $ 16 million free agency contract next season. His production dropped to 502 yards and a touchdown in 2020 because he had to share the load with Gordon and a combination of injuries that eventually landed him on an injured reserve.
In three seasons, Lindsay raced for 2,550 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also has 77 receptions for 465 yards and a touchdown.
