The Houston Rockets are worried that star center Christian Wood could be sidelined for a long time after injuring his right ankle for the second time in less than three weeks, sources told ESPN .
Wood will have an MRI on Friday to determine the severity of the injury he sustained when he cruelly rolled his ankle during the third quarter of Thursday’s 115-103 win over the Memphis Grizzlies, according to a source .
“I do not know,” Rockets coach Stephen Silas said of the seriousness of the injury. “It did not look good. It was a pity.”
Wood, who averaged 22.0 points and 10.2 rebounds per game in his first season with the Rockets, appeared as an All-Star candidate, missing three games after spraining his right ankle on January 20th.
Wood injured his ankle again when he drove down the track against the Grizzlies. He landed uncomfortably when he split the defenders of Memphis, Dillon Brooks and Ja Morant, and immediately went off in anguish.
After getting up again, Wood slowly limped off the floor during the ensuing lapse of time. He’s back on the field trying to throw a foul on Morant, but John Wall and other teammates have persuaded Wood to leave the game. He limped off the floor with the help of teammates and was taken to the dressing room in a wheelchair.
“It was difficult for me,” Silas said. “I had to like to sit down and gather my thoughts and gather myself. As good as he played, I mean, actually just like a breakout season and doing everything we needed to do him … Yeah, it’s struggling. “
