Houston police warn of fake CenterPoint Energy workers entering homes

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – As thousands of people are left without power due to the Houston winter storm, police say workers from fake energy companies are looking for their next target.

According to a tweet posted by Chief Art Acevedo on Monday, the police department has received reports of people posing as CenterPoint Energy workers.

‘We have reports of mockers imitating [CenterPoint Energy] employees to gain access to homes to victimize residents, “Acevedo wrote. The repair of disruptions in our area due to severe weather does not have to go into residences. “

The power grid in Texas experienced a systematic failure on Monday morning as demand rose due to the historic winter conditions across the state.

Network operators have declared an emergency after the record-breaking energy consumption exceeded their capacity.

Interruptions in Texas could take hours, even days, due to several power plants that are offline, according to officials. It is estimated that 75% of Texas’ power generation capacity is affected.

Acevedo asks anyone who sees suspicious behavior in their area to call 911 immediately.
