Houston Health administered nearly 3,600 doses at the Minute Maid Park COVID-19 vaccination clinic

HOUSTON The Houston Department of Health administered nearly 3,600 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine at Minute Maid Park on Saturday. The city made an additional 1,000 appointments available at noon that booked quickly.

“The new appointments took about 30 minutes,” the department tweeted. “We will post additional vaccination opportunities at http://HoustonEmergency.org/COVID19 as supply increases.”

The new appointments have been made available as a result of an additional 8,000 doses of vaccine delivered to the health department on Friday.


The Houston Department of Health on Friday announced a partnership with the Astros Foundation to host Minute Maid Park as a COVID-19 vaccination site on Saturday.

The vaccination center will be open to those who are already planning appointments at the Bayou City Event Center Clinic of the health department, which will close for an unrelated weekend gathering.

People will receive information about the new location and instructions on what to do when they arrive. Those who do not have an appointment with the health department will be turned down, health officials said.

The city of Houston is working 24 hours a day to get the COVID-19 vaccine to the public based on the available stock. “Unfortunately, we do not have the vaccine supply and we have to schedule our local vaccines based on the delivery of vaccines,” said Mayor Sylvester Turner. “We are grateful to the Astros Foundation for being a valued partner in the city’s COVID-19 response by providing testing and vaccination facilities and resources.
