House Dems ready to pass in DC on Thursday, urges Senate to end filibuster to do the same

Democratic leaders on Wednesday predicted the passage of legislation in Washington, DC in the House and called on the Senate to end the filibuster now to create the 51st state in the union.

“I hope the filibuster is scrutinized,” House Speaker Steny Hoyer, D-Md., Said Wednesday. “It is not a democratic principle that a minority can stop the majority.

“With the filibuster movement, there will be movement for DC coups,” the district’s non-voting one-time congressman, Member of Parliament Eleanor Holmes Norton, added. “And I believe the filibuster is on its way.”

Lawmakers spoke with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during a Capitol news conference Wednesday about the benefits of the Columbia state budget award.

The House will vote on the DC legislation on DC on Thursday, and Hoyer said he expects the bill to support all or nearly all House Democrats. President Biden supports DC coups and would sign the legislation.

The biggest challenge, however, is in the split- 50-50 senate. With the legislative filibuster still in existence, the bill on 60 states would be needed to advance. Hoyer said Wednesday he hopes the Senate will change the “undemocratic” filibuster and that the state bill will pass the upper house with a simple majority, such as the House.

‘Hopefully, at some point, people will tell the Senate of the United States … it’s undemocratic [and] it is un-American that the minority should hold the majority hostage, “Hoyer said of the filibuster. Our strategy is to pass good bills … and hope that the Senate will apply the will of the people through the majority vote. “

DEMOCRACTS EXTEND DC STATE HEAD WHO REMOVES NATIONAL POLITICS

DC officials and Democrats have raised the coup issue as a civil rights issue for historically liberated residents. But Republicans have been strong against the DC state, calling it an unconstitutional democratic coup designed to shift control in the Senate by adding two senators from a liberal stronghold.

DC has a population of more than 700,000 residents – larger than Wyoming and Vermont – but the residents do not have voting members in the House and have no representation in the Senate. It also has no control over its own local affairs. However, the District of Columbia pays more in federal taxes than 21 states and more per capita than any state, according to the 2019 IRS database.

Under the plan, the 51st state would be named ‘Washington, Douglass Commonwealth’, named after Frederick Douglass. The state would consist of 66 of the 68 square miles of the current federal district.

The two square miles around the White House, the Capitol, the Supreme Court, and the National Mall would be carved out into a diminished federal district controlled by Congress and called the “Capital.”

DC will have full control over local affairs and full representation in Congress, which equates to the current population of two senators and one representative in the House.
