Hot Tuesday ends with light rain

Happy World Meteorological Day!

It was on this date in 1950 that the World Meteorological Organization was developed as a specialized agency within the United Nations. The WMO is doing a world of good, such as efforts to reduce natural disasters through better warning systems, standardization of international weather detection equipment and observations, and of course climate change research.

I had the privilege a few years ago of visiting the WMO headquarters in Geneva and interviewing the Secretary-General in his office, and it’s amazing what the WMO has accomplished over the last seven decades.

A little closer to home, even though we have more clouds on Tuesday than we have seen in the last three days, we will sometimes still get at least partial sun, and the extraordinarily warm air mass is still with us. As such, highs today will reach the mid to above 60s. However, we have a southeasterly wind of 8 to 13 km / h, and as you know on the east side, the breeze in the early spring keeps you much cooler from the cold waters of the Great Lakes.

It will be mostly cloudy on Tuesday night, with scattered showers. The amount of rainfall will be light and it will not be a dip in the moderate drought and abnormally dry conditions in most of southeastern Michigan (the Metro airport has received only 0.03 inches of rain so far this month). The lows are close to 50 degrees, which is our average HIGH this time of year! The southeast wind continues, at 5 to 10 mph.

Scattered showers will end Wednesday morning, and then it will be partly cloudy and windy. A hurricane or thunderstorm can not be completely ruled out north of M-59 and west of I-75, but most of us need to stay dry Wednesday afternoon. The highs are near 70 degrees.

It will be partly cloudy on Wednesday evening, with lows in the upper forties.

It will be cloudy on Thursday with rain developing in the late afternoon. Highlights will be in the low 60s.

Rain reigns Thursday night – this is the good penetrating rain we desperately need, with an inch of water possible. Lows will be in the low 40s.

Rain ends Friday afternoon and it will be windy. Highlights will be in the low 50s.

It will be mostly clear on Friday night, with lows in the mid-30s.

It will be partly cloudy to start on Saturday, then it will be mostly cloudy. There’s a small chance of a shower late Saturday. Highlights will be in the low 50s.

Showers are likely Saturday night until at least the first half of Sunday, with the highest Sunday near 50 degrees.
