Various parties, however, criticize their management and consider that it has not been sufficient to defend human rights in the world.

In a map sent to the 193 members of the UN on the accession of the AFP, the General Assembly and the Security Council, they presented candidates “before the Council convenes its election in May or June”.

In honor of the UN Charter, the Council should recommend a candidate to the Assembly, who should formally appoint him.

In 2016, the ONU installed a process that sought a mayor transparency, and that prevailed audiences for the candidates.

“Candidates must possess leadership and management skills, an extensive experience of international relations and solid diplomatic, communication and multilingual skills”, the UN card states.

Since the creation of the UN in 1945, all general secretaries have been male.

In a card sent to the members of the ONU el miercoles, obtained by the AFP, Honduras llama to the presentation of female candidacies.

“We invite you to the States that the representative genuinely observes our compromises with the UN and will present female candidates, in compliance with the higher standards of efficiency, competence and integrity”, wrote the Honorable Ambassador to the UN, Mary Elizabeth Flores Flake.

It was about “initiating a nomination process where equality and inclusion are possible and their norm”, added.

In 2018 Flores presented himself as a candidate to chair the General Assembly of the UN, during the period before the Ecuadorian expatriate María Fernanda Espinosa, the first Latin American woman to chair the Assembly.
