(CNN Español) – The Honduran Congress approves a constitutional reform that closes the move to any potential initiative that promotes the right to abortion in the country.
The reform of Article 67 of the Honduran Constitution establishes the prohibition and legality of any interruption of life on the part of the mother or a third.
As such, it is important to note that the most important part of this concept is to ensure the quality of its conception.
The reform also creates a blindness in order to be able to determine that it is only possible to reform with the vote of the three quarters of the deputies. Approved with only three votes in favor (86 in favor of a total of 128 deputies), the reform also states that it will not lose its vigilance nor will it have to be completed when it is derogated or modified by another constitutional precept.
In the reform of Article 67 it is also clear that its null and void provisions which are created with posteriority to the vigilance of the reformed Article.
In this reform, too, it is established that Article 112 of the Constitution cannot be amended, which establishes that the celebration of matrimonial property in Honduras can only be between a man and a woman.
Various feminist groups and defenders of the rights of the women have applied on various occasions to the National Congress for the denunciation of abortion without their petitions affecting the support of the deputies.
Merly Eguigure, of the Muilla Visitation Padilla Movement, told CNN that the reform of the article that prohibits abortion and does not allow any modification to the law is an error and that in the next few days it will present a remedy of unconstitutionality due to a la mujer.
According to Eguigure, with this type of law, the aboriginal abortions are incremented in the country, which can not be tested, but it must be registered in this country.
In order for this reform to take effect, it will be published in the official register La Gaceta and ratified by the legislators in the next legislature, which will take place on 25 January.
