Homeowners in Arizona planting tree in backyard find buried suitcase filled with guns: police

Owners of a house in Arizona were gardening in their backyard Sunday when they discovered a disturbing find: a buried suitcase bag filled with guns, authorities said.

The homeowners discover the bag filled with rusty guns and handguns as they dig a hole in the backyard to plant a tree, the Phoenix Police Department said. After realizing what the bag contained, they immediately called the police.

The homeowners handed over the guns to detectives, who will investigate whether the firearms were used in any crimes, the department said.

Neighbor Yajaira Enriquez told FOX10 Phoenix that the discovery was ‘nerve-wracking’, but that many questions were not answered either.

“Why did you bury them there?” Enriquez said. “Must be a reason.”

The family has lived in the home for the past four years, reports AZFamily. Previously, it was leased to a range of individuals.
