Hitman 3 will reduce the file sizes for previous series entries

When Hitman 3 released later this month, it appears the file size for the previous two entries in the series is shrinking. The announcement was made in a thread on ResetEra by A Path Finder, a verified member of the development team of IO Interactive. Apparently, all three games with all the content will clock in at about 100 GB in total. A Path Finder further says that IO Interactive did the job by removing duplicate data and using ‘newer and better compression for textures’. For those who are concerned about hard drive space, this should be very welcome news!

The amount of space a game takes up has become a serious issue for many players over the past few years. As games continue to grow more advanced, and as DLC becomes an expected part of any release, so does the amount of space taken up. Fortunately, IO Interactive is not the only publisher making an effort to reduce the amount of space the game takes up; last year, Fortnite the developer Epic Games also announced that the size of the game would have a decrease on the PC. Hopefully this will be the beginning of a trend in the video game industry!

The smaller file sizes are just one of the improvements that come with it Hitman and Hitman 2 when Hitman 3 releases. According to A Path Finder, the previous games have been enhanced with reflections on the screen spaces, which should provide a nicer experience. These types of upgrades have become more common in recent times and should give players an extra incentive to revisit the previous titles.

Hitman 3 is the latest game in the series from IO Interactive, which once again puts players in the role of Agent 47. The game will apparently contain some of the biggest contracts in the history of the franchise, and players will have considerable freedom to execute them as they see fit. This could mean downloading or following a smarter approach.

Hitman 3 appears on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC on January 20, 2021. You can see all of our previous game coverage here.
