(CBSDFW.COM) – A winter storm is raging in North Texas.

Heavy, blowing snow entered the DFW Metroplex from the west in the late afternoon.

Some important points to indicate:

1). This is the heaviest snow in the Metroplex in 11 years. At least 4 inches of snow is expected, maybe more.

2). The temperature dropped all day until the low teens against the heavy snow. Strong northerly winds create wind chills below zero.

3). For the first time ever, there’s a wind chill warning for North Texas. Dangerous cold feeling temperatures are expected tonight and Tuesday.

4). Another snowstorm is expected late Tuesday and Wednesday. This could lead to a round of dangerous icing for our southern provinces.

The heavy snow and low visibility are expected to continue during the evening. Another round will come in later Sunday night, and this second round will direct our southeastern and eastern provinces. Road conditions are still treacherous and will be through the night and most of the day Monday.

We broke cold records for Valentine’s Day; the coldest temperature ever recorded on February 14 in our 123-year weather history and also the coldest day. More records are expected to fall over the next few days, some of which are more than a hundred years old.

The coldest air in more than three decades began to draw in North Texas on Sunday night. By Tuesday morning, we expect a minimum of zero degrees at DFW. This is the coldest night we’ve had in over three decades.

Many homes in the fast-growing Metroplex are not that old. If your home is less than 32 years old, you will find out the next two nights whether you have adequately insulated the plumbing from the outside wall.

A second storm is expected to arrive late Tuesday and last all Wednesday. This could yield another round of two to four inches of snow (or more) for the Metroplex. It could also be a significant ice storm for our southern counties from Hill County to Henderson County and south.

Please stay abreast of this storm. The ice storm possibilities with this event can be extremely dangerous.
