Hilary Duff will star in How I Met Your Mother’s sequel

I did not have it on my 2021 Bingo card.

Remember How I met your mother? Of course you do – even though the beloved TV sitcom ended a while ago.

How I met your mother worked at CBS from 2005 to 2014.

Well, the franchise is back – and if you think it’s shocking, get it: Hilary Duff is on board, too.

The new program is called – wait for it – How I met your father, and it comes to Hulu with Duff as the lead. Exciting!

According to Variety, the program will revolve around ‘Sophie (Duff) telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story we catapult to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close group of friends in the midst of finding out who they are, what they want out of life and how to fall in love in the era of dating apps and unlimited options. ‘

Variety also reports that it is unclear at this time how – or if – the new show will join the universe of the original.

You may not know it, but a kind of sequel to How I met your mother has been working for a while now. Greta Gerwig shot a pilot for How I met your father in 2014, it was finally not recorded for series.

That pilot was a lock, but then test audiences did not like Greta Gerwig as the leader (!!!). I asked her about the experience in 2015 when ‘Mistress America’ came out. https://t.co/gORZ5VY2ZQ

The announcement is also a perfect timing for Duff since the last season of Younger just kicked off earlier this month.

In any case, there is no fixed premium date for How I met your father right now, so we’ll have to wait and see how it turns out.
