Hilaria Baldwin’s legacy scandal provokes response from Charo: ‘It’s funny’

Charo admitted that she finds Hilaria Baldwin’s Spanish heritage scandal “funny”.

The 70-year-old Spanish-American actress told Page Six that she had been trying to perfect her English all her life, so she did not understand why Baldwin, 37, was “obsessed” with her Spanish accent.

“I spend all my life English like you,” Charo said. ‘I was hoping [be] a sophisticated American and I was born in Murcia, Spain, where they have a very strong Castilian accent. ‘

“It’s probably Hilaria’s obsession,” Charo thought. “I want to speak the best English, because after so many years in America, no one knows what I’m talking about.”

Baldwin exploded in December when it was discovered that she was not actually born in Spain, as she implied, and instead was born and bred in Boston, Mass.

‘In the case of Hilaria, she must be [so] obsessed with everything Spanish – the tradition, flamenco – that she really went to the training and managed to do it very well indeed, “Charo thinks.

Baldwin was also criticized for allegedly dropping a Spanish accent. The bilingual mother of five’s accent has changed markedly over the years when she appeared on TV.
