Here’s what you need to know on March 13, 2021

DETROIT The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan rose from Saturday to 607,437, including 15,774 deaths, state officials said.

Saturday’s update contains a total of 1,659 new cases and 38 additional deaths – including 30 deaths identified during a revision of the records, meaning it did not occur between Friday and Saturday.

The state also reported a total of 556,697 recoveries of the virus on Saturday.

The state no longer offers coronavirus updates on Sundays; the next update is expected Monday afternoon.

On Friday, the state reported a total of 605,778 virus cases and 15,737 deaths.

The test has decreased over the past week and decreased to about 35,000 diagnostic tests reported per day on average, with a positive rate of 7 days from Saturday above 5%. Hospitalizations have flattened over the past two weeks.

Michigan’s 7-day moving average for daily business was Saturday, 1626 – the highest it has been in the past month. The 7-day mortality rate was Saturday 21. The state mortality rate is 2.6%. The state also reports ‘active cases’ listed at 35,000 on Saturday – almost the lowest since October.

Michigan has more than reported 2.9 million doses of COVID-19 administeredfrom Friday with a coverage rate of 23.1% across the country.

According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 29 million cases reported in US., with more than 530,000 deaths of the virus reported.

Worldwide, more than It has been confirmed that 118.3 million people are infected and more than 2.6 million dead. More than 66 million recovered, according to Johns Hopkins University. The true numbers are certainly much higher, due to limited tests, countries pick up the dead in various ways and deliberate underreporting by some governments.

The state of Michigan on Friday announced that all residents aged 16 and older will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine on April 5, almost a month before the date on which President Joe Biden promised May 1st.

People aged 16 to 49 with certain medical conditions or disabilities qualify from March 22 when 50- to 64-year-olds can start shooting under a previous announcement. Two days later, March 24, a federally selected local mass vaccination site in Detroit’s Ford field will be open to administer an additional 6,000 doses per day for two months.

The Department of Health and Human Services in Michigan has announced that the first case of the COVID-19 variant B.1.351 has been identified in a child in Jackson County.

The health department did not say how the boy was infected, but a case is being investigated to determine close contact and whether additional cases are related.

This new variant was originally detected in South Africa in October 2020 and shares mutations with the B117 variant. The first case of the B117 variant – originally detected in the United Kingdom – has been identified in Washtenaw County.

The state of Michigan will expand its land Covid-19 vaccine plans to include residents 50 and older, Local 4 has learned.

This week

As of Monday, March 8, Michigan residents 50 years and older with existing medical conditions or disabilities may be eligible to make an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said.

Caregivers and family members who supervise children with special health needs can also receive the vaccine from Monday.

“The more people we can get the safe and effective vaccination, the faster we can return to a sense of normalcy,” Whitmer said. “I urge all eligible Michiganders to obtain one of the three COVID-19 vaccines to protect you, your family and your community.”

Later this month

On March 4, all Michiganders 50 years and older will be eligible, Local 4 has learned.

According to the state, more than 40% of Michiganders 65 and older are vaccinated.

“More than 2.3 million doses of safe and effective COVID vaccines have been administered in Michigan, and we know that more vaccines are coming into the state,” he said. Joneigh Khaldun, Medical CEO and Deputy Chief of Health at MDHHS. “We are delighted that we are more eligible for more people to be vaccinated as we continue to focus on our most vulnerable and those at greatest risk for serious diseases due to COVID-19.”

The state of Michigan has liberated its land COVID-19 restrictions at pubs and restaurants, including capacity limitation and curfews.

On Tuesday, March 2, the Govt. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced that the restrictions on dining room inside have been reviewed.

According to the state, from Friday, March 5, Michigan restaurants and pubs may fill up to 50% capacity, with a maximum of 100 people.

“I am proud that we can take this positive step without compromising public health,” Whitmer said.

Since 1 February, restaurants with a capacity of 25% have been restricted. From mid-November to the end of January, no indoor meals were allowed at pubs or restaurants.

The number of confirmed cases of a more contagious COVID-19 variant in Michigan has increased by more than 100 this week, indicating that there is an “unmarked spread” in the community.

Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, chief medical officer of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, said the state had confirmed 422 cases of the COVID-19 B117 variant.

The number has increased from 314 cases identified six days earlier (February 24).

Through a partnership with SMART, Macomb County is offering a new vaccination site in Sterling Heights.

The vaccination site is in the Sterling Heights Senior Center on Utica Road, between Schoenherr and Van Dyke roads.

Appointments are required. Eligible residents and workers can call the SMART Macomb Vaccine Line at 586-421-6579.

Wayne County has announced it will open several vaccination clinics for residents 65 and older.

According to Warren Evans, provincial management, the vaccination clinics will begin on February 23.

“I’m glad Wayne County is now able to start vaccinating the elderly,” Evans said. ‘I know everyone is eager to get back to normal. Our team works hard to ensure that all our residents can get their COVID shot once the vaccine is available. ”

There are no appointments and seniors should make an appointment by dialing the number for the site in their communities.
