Here’s what you need to know on April 3, 2021

DETROIT The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan rose to 683,793 from Friday, including 16,161 deaths, state officials said.

Friday’s update contains a total of 5,498 new cases and 20 additional deaths. The state reported 678,295 cases and 16,141 deaths on Thursday.

The test reported an average of about 35,000 diagnostic tests per day, with the 7-day positive rate above 13% from Thursday, the highest since early December. The state has reported an increase in hospitalizations in recent weeks.

Michigan’s 7-day moving average for daily business was 5,061 on Thursday – the highest since December. The death toll of 7 days was Thursday 26 and has been flat for several weeks. The state’s mortality rate is 2.4%. The state also reports ‘active cases’ listed at 94,500 on Thursday. More than 569,000 recovered in Michigan.

Michigan has more than reported 4.2 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered from Wednesday, with 34.5% of the inhabitants received at least one dose.

According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 30,4,5 million cases have been reported in the US., with more than 553,200 deaths of the virus reported.

REGARD: Coronavirus cases detected, outbreaks in Michigan schools


Government Gretchen Whitmer released a statement on Tuesday after White House officials announced that the dose of COVID-19 vaccine for Michigan would increase from next week.

According to a press release, delivery will increase by 66,020 next week, increasing the total dose doses to 620,040, a weekly record for the state. Officials said the award includes 147,800 doses of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

This comes after Whitmer recently asked for more vaccines because the state is seeing an increase in COVID numbers.

The CDC said Michigan leads the country in new cases of COVID-19 per capita.

On Tuesday, officials reported 5,177 new COVID cases and 48 additional deaths, including 20 from a Vital Records review. The state reported 660,771 cases and 16,034 deaths on Monday.

Local dr. Frank McGeorge, 4, said he sees a very clear increase in COVID patients in the hospital where he works.

‘Many of them have to be admitted to hospital. I will honestly say it feels worse to me here in Southeast Michigan than during the wave that started in November. The main trend now is the number of middle-aged people with severe COVID, ‘McGeorge said.

The Detroiters 16 and older are now eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine, the city announced Monday.

Any Detroit resident, 16 years or older, can call now to make an appointment to be vaccinated at the TCF Center.

Appointments can be made by calling 313-230-0505. Anyone who lives outside of downtown Detroit but works in the city every day can also make an appointment.

Johnson & Johnson’s vaccination site opened 9-1 at Northwest Activity Center this Saturday.

Chief Public Health Officer Denise Fair also announced that the Detroit Department of Health has been notified that it will receive its first award of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine this week. Detroiters who want the one-dose J&J vaccine can call 313-230-0505 for an appointment to receive 9-1 at the Northwest Activity Center, 18100 Meyers, Saturday.

The state of Michigan announced Friday that all residents aged 16 and older will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine on April 5, almost a month before the date on which President Joe Biden promised May 1st.

People from 16 to 49 years old certain medical conditions or disabilities qualifies from 22 March, when 50- to 64-year-olds can start shooting under a previous announcement. Two days later, March 24, a federally selected local mass vaccination center will open in Detroit’s Ford Field to administer an additional 6,000 doses per day for two months.

The Department of Health and Human Services in Michigan has announced that the first case of the COVID-19 variant B.1.351 has been identified in a child in Jackson County.

The health department did not say how the boy was infected, but a case is being investigated to determine close contact and whether additional cases are related.

This new variant was originally detected in South Africa in October 2020 and shares mutations with the B117 variant. The first case of the B117 variant – originally detected in the United Kingdom – has been identified in Washtenaw County.

The state of Michigan has liberated its land COVID-19 restrictions at pubs and restaurants, including the capacity limit and night clock.

On Tuesday, March 2, the Govt. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced that the restrictions on indoor dining have been reviewed.

As of Friday, March 5, according to the state, Michigan restaurants and bars can fill up to 50% capacity, with a maximum of 100 people.

“I am proud that we can take this positive step without compromising public health,” Whitmer said.

Since 1 February, restaurants with a capacity of 25% have been restricted. From mid-November to the end of January, no indoor meals were allowed at pubs or restaurants.

The number of confirmed cases of a more contagious COVID-19 variant in Michigan has increased by more than 100 this week, indicating that there is an “unmarked spread” in the community.

Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, chief medical officer of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, said the state had confirmed 422 cases of the COVID-19 B117 variant.

The number has increased from 314 cases identified six days earlier (February 24).

Through a partnership with SMART, Macomb County is offering a new vaccination site in Sterling Heights.

The vaccination center is in the Sterling Heights Senior Center on Utica Road, between Schoenherr and Van Dyke roads.

Appointments are required. Eligible residents and workers can call the SMART Macomb Vaccine Line at 586-421-6579.

Wayne County has announced it will open several vaccination clinics for residents 65 and older.

According to Warren Evans, provincial management, the vaccination clinics will begin on February 23.

“I’m pleased that Wayne County is now able to vaccinate the elderly,” Evans said. ‘I know everyone is eager to get back to normal. Our team works hard to ensure that all our residents can get their COVID shot once the vaccine is available. ”

There are no appointments and seniors should make an appointment by dialing the number for the site in their communities.
