Up to this point, we have not heard much about Ford’s upcoming compact Maverick pickup. The little we put together comes largely from this picture of a tailgate and a few spies. But now, thanks to the forum members MaverickTruckClub, we are finally looking at the front of the Blue Oval’s small truck offerings.
Not much can be picked out of the image, like the ever-important scale of the truck, but at least we look at the headlights, the grille and the overall body shape. It is also clear that the truck will be presented in a crew cabin layout, although previous reports suggest that it may be – no single cabin here. These are quite typical of pickups these days, though it would be great to have a very small Maverick.
As we previously suspected, the new Maverick is likely based on the Bronco Sport platform and will therefore be front-wheel drive, with AWD as an option available. A bit like the Honda Ridgeline. And since it’s based on the Bronco Sport, it’s likely to share the 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter EcoBoost engines as well. The speculation is supported by previously leaked documents.
Other details also surfaced, such as the location of the truck in Hermosillo, Mexico, as well as reports that it will share a large number of parts with the Ford Transit Connect. It is expected that while the Transit does not offer a manual gearbox, the Maverick might just be, which would be fine. As for the overall size of the vehicle, rumor has it that it is at least two feet shorter than the Ranger, thus a true compact.
In any case, it’s nice to finally see Ford’s new small truck from the front, even if it’s covered in camouflage. Hopefully there is a Raptor version. It will be sweet.
