Thursday’s COVID-19 update from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) contains 2,736 new cases and 11 new deaths.
The new deaths increase the death toll from the state to 6,989 in the course of the pandemic. Of the total deaths, 61.9% (4 324) were residents of long-term care.
As of April 13, the state reported that 2,162,665 people had received at least 1 dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 1,488,116 people had completed their vaccine range.
Forty-nine percent of Minnesotans 16 years and older received at least one shot, while 85% of the 65-year-old population had at least one dose of vaccine. Overall, 39% of the state’s population had at least one dose.

Hospitalizations
As of April 14, the number of people with COVID-19 hospitalized in Minnesota was 699, which is higher than 681 Wednesday.
Of those admitted to the hospital, 168 were in intensive care (compared to 164 reported on Wednesday) and 531 received non-ICU treatment (compared to 517).

Test and positivity figures
The 2,736 positive results in the update on Thursday were from 46,409 completed tests, which created a test positivity rate of 5.89%.
According to Johns Hopkins University, Minnesota’s positivity rate over the past seven days is 7.19%.
The World Health Organization recommends that a percentage positive rate (total positive divided by total completed tests) of at least two weeks below 5% is needed to safely reopen the economy. The 5% threshold is based on total positive share through total tests.
