Here’s how you can sign up to be one of the 8 people surrounding the moon with Yusaku Maezawa

Start by registering in advance and get a fun “Candidate certificate for crew“!

Yusaku Maezawa is one of the more eccentric billionaires in the world. The founder of the online fashion retailer ZOZOTOWN is not the kind of rich man who wastes his money on frivolous things – well, he is, because he has more money than he could ever spend, but he is also quite generous with his cash and is known as a strong proponent of the arts and sciences.

Recently, the entrepreneur made headlines worldwide because he posted on March 2nd an open invitation to the world to join him on the first Space-X flight that will orbit the moon, in which he the “dear monday“-Project.

In videos posted to his Twitter and YouTube accounts, Maezawa announced it he invites eight people from around the world to fill the seats he has already paid for the as yet unfinished commercial spaceship, “Starship”, which is expected to flee in 2023. The video, which was posted on Maezawa’s YouTube channel, explains his plans for the dearMoon project in detail, as well as Space-X founder Elon Musk’s thoughts on the project:

According to the video, the qualities that Maezawa is looking for in his potential crew members are only twofold: first, that “whatever activity you do, by going into space, I hope you can push the envelope to help other people and the larger society in some way”. He wants people who can use their experience in space to do even greater things with their work than before. Second, Maezawa wants passengers who are ‘willing to support other crew members who have similar aspirations’.

If you are a creative type who dreams of changing the world, you can apply to be one of the lucky eight who fly to the moon and play between the stars dearMoon website. The process looks like it will be quite a long time, with five phases of interviews and performances. Step one is pre-registration, which is now open to everyone. All you have to do is enter your name, country and email address, and then upload a photo, then you will be pre-registered, which essentially means you will appear on the mailing list for information.

Pre-registration closes on March 14 at 23:59., Pacific Standard Time. After that, phase 2 will start: the document-based selection. Details on the requirements for the application and the selection process will be sent out on 15 March, and the final submissions of the documents they request – CVs or essays, may have to be made by 21 March at 23:59, Pacific Standard Time. .

Phase 3 involves a performance based on assignments, although this is a bit unclear, as details and dates for phase 3 have not yet been announced. Hereafter will be online interviews (phase 4), and then final interviews and medical evaluations (phase 5), which is expected to take place at the end of May.

As the ship itself is still in development and the voyage has not been planned for two years, the details of the flight plan, the ship, the space suit that the participants will be carrying and other information have of course not yet been determined. As the details are finalized, information will be on the dearMoon website and on Maezawa’s Twitter Page, so if you’re even interested in just looking at the project, you can follow it.

Maezawa is looking for people who really want to broaden their creative horizons and use them to make a difference in the world. If this sounds like you, you should definitely apply it! But whether your ambitions are to make a difference in the world or just to see what the project is about, pre-registration is free without any commitment, and you also get a free crew candidate certificate like the one below, complete your photo in the helmet and flag of your country on the arm of the space suit. This is a fun souvenir for this historic project!

Just be aware that scams with Maezawa’s name are quite common, so if you pre-register and accidentally receive an SMS or friend request from Maezawa, it’s probably better if you do not accept it or open any links. Strength!
