Here’s everything you need to know about crossing animals: New Horizons New Year’s Event

It’s New Year’s Eve, but it’s still 2020, so we think many people will celebrate the coming of the new year from the comfort of their own homes. For gamers who have played Animal crossing: new horizons, there’s still a way out of the city. Right now and until midnight tonight, Tom Nook and Isabelle are hosting the New Year’s Eve event with free gifts, delicious seasonal items and a countdown to the new year.

We start with the free stuff. Turn on the Nintendo Switch and wander over to the town square in front of Resident Services (which is casually closed for the holidays) where Isabelle and Tom Nook are hastily preparing for the countdown to midnight for 2021. Both characters have free items useful for the upcoming celebration. Tom releases Party Poppers, and Isabelle will gift players with a Light Stick, all of which will apparently be blown up at midnight.

The square is all adorned with balloons, a wagon with New Year’s Eve party supplies and a large countdown to the big moment where 2020 will graciously come to an end. Walk through the city and also go see with residents who are also making their own preparations for the evening. We came across more than one resident who needed help counting down to 2021.

As soon as the darkness of the night dawns and the timer comes near midnight, you must jump into the game, where everyone gathers in the square near the timer. According to YouTuber Crossing Channel, who took the time to see what’s coming, everyone will stick out their Light Sticks and count down together until midnight. It’s a very nice touch for the game, which celebrates many holidays, to have a way for players to celebrate together. Players can even fly to other islands via Dodo Codes so they can share the moment with loved ones.
