The school department returned four days a week to personal instruction for all students. Wednesdays are still virtual learning days. Students still have the option to attend the “Cavaliers Connected” virtual learning program.

Craig County has been working on the following schedule since the beginning of the school year:

  • Craig County High School: personal tuition two days / week and virtually the other days

  • Craig County High School: personal tuition four days / week and virtually on Friday

  • McCleary Elementary School: From the second semester (January 20), McCleary Elementary School students attend five days a week.

All students still have the option of virtual education.

The School Division continues with our hybrid plan for the second semester. Some of our students chose virtual teaching and others chose face to face.

  • High school students will remain virtual until February 15th. During this time, the high school will notify all students who are switching from virtual learning or new enrollments, if they are on an A or B day schedule. Current high school students will keep their original A or B day schedules until the end of the third 9 weeks, March 26th. More information will be provided after the March Board meeting.

  • The eighth grade students will return to 4 days a week from 15 February (M, Tue, Thu, F)

  • Pre-7th grade continues with 4 days a week (M, Tue, Thu, F)

  • On Wednesdays, all students of the Prek-12 degree will still participate in virtual learning

The school department hopes that PK-3 will be able to return to personal learning on 16 February. The plan is to move more students personally afterwards.

The school department has been closely monitoring local COVID data, as well as the percentage of positive and quarantine rates, since the winter holidays returned, and is delighted that the trends show that schools are able to reopen hybrid education on 10 March.

Students have the option to return to hybrid teaching or to remain virtual learners.

Just like in the fall, a student can, depending on individual circumstances, move between the formats as needed.

Every student who has to move between hybrid and virtual instructions must talk to his / her principal.

Similar to the fall hybrid teaching plan, students in Preach and first grade, as well as students in specialized classes, will attend four days a week rather than two. For planning purposes, students who have previously attended four days a week should notify their principal if they wish to attend only two days a week.

Students from Lexington City Schools returned to personal learning on Monday, February 1st. Students in K-8 who choose personally will attend school Monday-Thursday as a designated home learning day. Families who prefer to stay virtual have the option to do so.

Martinsville has all been virtual since March 2020, when schools were closed for personal learning. The superintendent said that once teachers are vaccinated, the school department looks to bring students back to the classroom, starting with early learners, students with special needs and English learners. Teachers had the option to be vaccinated on February 2 for their first dose.

Stay where it is, with four half days in person per week for all grade levels.

Nelson County is currently still virtual with a preliminary hybrid yield for PK-3 on February 15th. No changes have been made so far.

North Cross has been open since September. ‘We are masked, socially removed and test our students every two weeks to prevent the spread of viruses. To date, we have conducted more than 5,000 tests and had no outbreaks in the classroom. “If schools are socially distanced and masked, the transmission of the disease is possible, but not very likely,” said Chris Proctor, principal.

At present, Pittsylvania County has students who participate personally using a hybrid model. Students in the Preaching up to 3-degrees, special education students and English-speaking learners (ECC) attend in person four days a week. Students in grades 4-12 attend two days a week in an AB day format. Wednesdays are a distance learning day for students. Parents also have the option for students to participate in a completely remote format. They have been using this modality since September 28th.

“We are currently reviewing state guidance and planning work with the expectation of bringing in more students in person provided we can do so safely and in accordance with current CDC and VDH guidelines,” in an email to 10 News.

Plan to return all students four days a week from 3 February 2021.

By 19 February, all students will declare their learning model for the rest of the 2020-2021 school year. Students and families have two models to choose from four days a week face-to-face in the school building or to learn remotely (asynchronously) four days a week.

Roanoke County continues with its current plans. The school department started the school year with grades PK-2 in full-time, personal instruction.

At the end of October, the third degree added.

On January 25, they add the fourth grade.

“At this point, we are almost at the limit of our capacity, while maintaining a distance of six feet. If we can reduce the physical distance, we may be able to make additional changes. We are continuing to work with the health department on our plans, ‘a school spokesman told 10 News in an email.

‘We have been offering the person option in Salem since the start on 31 August 2020. The Salem City School department is currently meeting the expectations of the VDOE / Governor for personal learning and has been since the opening of schools last August. We will continue to do so while also adhering to the recommendations for maintaining physical distance and face coverage, ‘a school spokesman told 10 News in an email. ‘We still have the same plan, which worked well and allowed us to maintain the social distance of 6 meters in our uniquely designed buildings. If the recommendation for physical distance changes, which allows us to increase the number of students who can safely go to school, we are well positioned to move to higher levels of student attendance. We realize that online learning has been a struggle for many and as a result we are implementing plans to help these students with more “face-to-face” learning opportunities.
