SAN ANTONIO – Power outages and broken pipes across the state of Texas are causing worrying water quality for many municipalities. Millions of people across the state are under notice over boiling water.
A boiling water notice means that residents have to boil their water before consumption (eg washing hands / face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc.). Children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these instructions). To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, boiling and ice must be boiled and cooled before being used for drinking water or human consumption. The water should be brought to a boil and then boiled for two minutes. Instead of boiling, individuals can buy bottled water or obtain water from another suitable source for drinking water or human consumption. When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the officials of the public water system will inform customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption.
