While many of us agree that 2020 could be a long way from a short pier, the worst things that have happened have brought out the best in us. Amidst the hopelessness, isolation, fear and loss, there were moments of laughter, gratitude and above all compassion.

1. Good trouble
While the U.S. has experienced horrific violence by police against people of color, the country has come together to declare that it is unacceptable and that long-term changes need to be made to navigate policing. That was what late rep. John Lewis (D-GA) called to get into ‘good trouble’. The kind of problems that make a difference and can help change the world.
In Minneapolis, after the death of George Floyd, was broadcast to the world, investigations revealed systematic problems within the department. This led to the city council stepping in to redevelop the entire department and the way policing is done in the city. Floyd’s six-year-old daughter said “daddy changed the world.” Indeed, he did.
Broad talks also began after an unarmed, naked man suffocated in Rochester, New York, while having a clear mental health emergency. Police departments have acknowledged that they are regularly called in to deal with such situations, for which they are clearly not trained.
While tensions between racist groups and Black Lives Matter have increased, it has become clear that the overwhelming number of Americans believe there is a problem that needs to be addressed in policing communities.

2. Mask makers, disinfectants and shield creators
In the early days of the pandemic, President Donald Trump refused to enact the Defense Production Act to create more personal protective equipment for frontline health workers and first responders dealing with the COVID-19 crisis. Masks became scarce and doctors and nurses began to get sick.

Face protection also became frightening, but with 3D printers and enthusiastic students at Penn, a robotics team in New Mexico, faculty at five universities, DC artists and engineers, DC students, a student and teacher in Missouri, isolated Chicago people and dozens of companies. stood up to help.

3. The election
While President Donald Trump would not say he was happy about it, the 2020 election got rid of the ‘Twitter president’. The best thing about the election, apart from the result, however, was that it set records. The gender election has been anemic for generations, with only occasional energy outbursts. This year was not just an eruption, it was a tidal wave of participation, whether some want to believe it or not.
Although the end of Georgia’s Senate will only be held after the new year, it has already proven to attract even more voters than the November election. Analysts believe this is attributed to young people who were not old enough to vote in November, but who now want to make their voices heard.
At the local level, a historic number of LGBTQ officials and women of color were also elected, making U.S. leaders look just a little more like the population.

4. American institutions held
It has been a tumultuous four years under the presidency of Donald Trump, but in his latest assault on the American institutions, it all seems to hold.

6. You cannot be fired because you are transgender
While the face of the Supreme Court has now been changed forever, while the great judge Ruth Bader Ginsberg is still alive, the Supreme Court ruled in a historic 6-3 ruling that Americans cannot be fired because of their gender identity.

There is still a lot of work to be done, but prisoners enjoy the support of Americans behind them. Most people now realize that it is foolish to arrest because they have a sack pot in a condition that now sells it legally, and even less ten years or longer in prison.

9. The earth had a good year
The positive thing about a work-from-home revolution and a massive unemployment crisis was a decline in carbon emissions. While they have fallen by a record seven percent this year, they are likely to rise again in the United States in 2021. Other countries, however, took important steps as part of the Paris Agreement to achieve no exemption by the middle of the century. Elected President Joe Biden is likely to rejoin the agreement, and if the Democrats win in Georgia, there is a chance that a new era of clean energy could be on the horizon and that there are jobs.

10. Animals
As a result of the pandemic, more Americans have adopted pets in recent years than ever before in history. There is actually a historical decline in furry friends in animal shelters.
