Helotes teen shares the experience of the Modern COVID-19 vaccine trial

HELOTES, Texas A Helotes teenager nowadays feels more confident to walk outside her house after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.

“I could visit more places and hang out with my friends more and not be so worried,” said 14-year-old Hannah Ross, who participated in a Modern COVID-19 vaccine trial conducted by Tekton Research. .

“Nobody gets anywhere without medical tests. If no one is willing to take a chance, no one gets the benefit of having the vaccine. And when she said she wanted to do it, I was supportive, ”said Judy Ross, Hannah’s mother.

Hannah got her first shot on December 18, not knowing if it was the vaccine or a placebo.

“I had fever above 100 for about two days, and then I also had physical pain and chills and fatigue,” she said.

Hannah got her second shot on January 13th.

“The second one was just fever and body aches,” she said.

“She has to go every three months to have blood drawn so they can monitor her antibody level and see what they are doing, and also go for COVID testing,” Judy Ross said.

Hannah’s parents also received the COVID-19 vaccine.

“We’m still masked when we go out and we still have a social distance, but we do not have to worry about whether we’ll get it or give it to someone else,” Judy Ross said.

Hannah said she feels good and does gymnastics.

“She goes to competitions every now and then about 25 hours a week to the gym,” Judy Ross said.

Hannah’s mother said that vaccinating most of the family makes life much easier.

“We’re not worried about someone not being masked or standing too close,” Judy Ross said.

Moderna has also started testing its vaccine in children under 12, which includes babies as young as six months old. The clinical trial, KIDCOVE study, will enroll approximately 6,750 children in the United States and Canada.
